Low stock: 2 left
The prestige cuvée of Esterlin, and the only one in the range vinified in oak barrels (228-litre Burgundy barrels and 350-litre muids). Cléo has been Esterlin's flagship since the 2010 vintage, succeeding the former Elsévia. The 2012 edition continues with a blend of 34% Chardonnay and 66% Pinot Meunier, a Meunier-dominant Blanc de Blancs that challenges the conventional definition of the style. No malolactic fermentation. Aged 10+ years on lees. Named after the Egyptian queen and the brand's Egyptian architectural heritage in Épernay. The house with the Palladian-style building on the Avenue de Champagne, vinifying champagne as no grande maison would dare.
Tasting notes: A wine of great delicacy and maturity. The oak ageing adds richness and aromatic complexity, coffee, moka and toasted notes alongside the fresh citrus and yellow fruit of the Chardonnay. On the palate: silky, full and long with a finish that evolves in the glass.
Food pairing: A prestige champagne for the great table. Exceptional with lobster, fine poultry, veal sweetbread, white truffle and the most refined fish preparations.
