The Odyssey leaves Avize for the first time. In 2020, Olivier and Ferdinand partnered with David Faivre, a winegrower in Belval-sous-Châtillon in the Vallée de la Marne, to purchase 4,000 kg of Pinot Meunier grapes from the lieu-dit Les Vignes du Bout du Village, a plot of 27 ares 34, planted in 1975. The wines were vinified and bottled in the heart of Avize, then aged on laths for 32 months. The clay-limestone surface with sandy-silt soils in depth offers an elegant expression of this Premier Cru village and its Pinot Meuniers.
Tasting notes: An elegant expression of Belval-sous-Châtillon and its Pinot Meuniers, the clay-limestone and sandy-silt terroir providing both structure and suppleness. The long 32-month lees ageing adds complexity and depth to the naturally fruity, generous character of Meunier.
Food pairing: An excellent table champagne with gastronomic ambition. Outstanding with poultry, veal, mushroom dishes and mild to medium-aged cheeses.
